The Retreat
A Sanctuary for the Soul
“Guests visiting The Mambanje Waterfront are not only witnessing the gradual return of wildlife to a recovering landscape. They’re helping support meaningful projects that improve the lives of the people who call this region home.”

The Heart of Camp
The Waterfront Pavilion

Dining & Lounge
Open to the
African Wilderness
The central pavilion is built from stone and timber under a deep thatch roof, overlooking the Mambanje waterhole. With minimal walls and an open design, the sounds and sights of the African bush are always present — whether you’re enjoying breakfast in time to glimpse the resident hippos returning home from their nocturnal wanderings, or lingering over dinner as elephants splash and cavort in the water below. Comfortable sofa areas enjoy a commanding view of the constant procession of birds and animals arriving at the waterhole to quench their thirst. The dark wood dining table seats up to twelve and becomes the natural gathering place for guests to share the stories of their day.
After Dark
Evenings Around
the Fire
As the sun drops and the waterhole turns to silver, the circular fire pit becomes the heart of camp. Lit by fairy lights in the canopy of the towering Berchemia Discolor tree guests gather around a wood fire — sharing the day’s experiences, listening to the sounds of the African night, and feeling the profound quiet of a wilderness far from any city.
